The Languages and Cultures Department offers majors in Arabic and Chinese, and minors in all seven languages.

All midshipmen majoring in Economics, English, History, or Political Science are required to take or validate four semesters of a foreign language offered at the Naval Academy, or the equivalent.

Midshipmen majoring in Engineering, Mathematics, or Science are not required to take a foreign language; but many of them choose to do so.

A Chemistry AP score of 4 or 5 can be important in validating chemistry.

Your teachers tire of your never-ending requests, and it’s only September (you have five more colleges that each need two letters—some teachers will have to do multiples. But first, you round up last year’s English teacher, who reported the wrong grade on your report card.

Also an AP score of 5 in European, US, or World History is necessary to proceed to validation.

An AP Calculus, AB or BC, score of 4 or 5 is important in validating Calculus.
